HORNE donates $60,000 to charities in North and South Carolina

Two non-profits soon will receive support for their community efforts thanks to HORNE and the HORNE Community Foundation. HORNE team members voted for Ronald McDonald House Charities in Columbia, South Carolina, as the winner of $50,000 with Children’s Home Society of North Carolina coming in second with an award of $10,000.

Ronald McDonald House Charities in Columbia, South Carolina, creates, finds and supports programs that directly improve the health and wellbeing of children. The group believes a family-centered care plan can significantly impact pediatric patients during their medical journey.

While the hospital focuses on the child’s physical health, RMHC focuses on aiding the family’s mental health. The charity’s cornerstone programs are the Ronald McDonald House and the Ronald McDonald Family Room, and both provide an essential respite for families to recharge so they can focus on their child’s recovery.

Children’s Home Society of North Carolina promotes the right of every child to a permanent, safe and loving family. As the leading private foster care and adoption agency in the state, CHS provides a range of services, from prevention to foster care to adoption and supports families to be the best they can be.

CHS programs help children achieve permanence through reunification, guardianship or adoption, improving child well-being and reducing the time children are in foster care. CHS positively impacts long-term effects of child trauma such as poverty, homelessness, unwanted pregnancies, substance abuse, violence, incarceration, untreated mental and physical health and multi-generational child abuse and neglect.

As part of its 60th anniversary celebration, HORNE employees will vote on non-profits nominated from six regions where the firm serves in the U.S. mainland, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The foundation, on behalf of HORNE, will award $60,000 every week for six weeks, for a total of $360,000.

“Throughout the past 60 years, HORNE has grown from a local accounting practice to a nationwide professional services firm with a mission of delivering with care,” said Neil Forbes, HORNE’s managing partner. “We live and work in the very communities where these worthy organizations are serving and we’re proud to give back to those who are doing so much good.”

The HORNE Community Foundation was established by the firm’s partners in 2021 to provide financial support to the areas where team members live and serve.
