HORNE, a professional services firm, congratulates Government Services Partner Alethia Thomas on her recent recognition as a 2024 Honoree — an outstanding business leader in professional services — at the Houston Business Journal’s 2024 Women Who Mean Business Awards.
For the last eight years, the Houston Business Journal has recognized women in leadership roles who have demonstrated excellence in their careers and communities. All honorees were recognized during an awards luncheon on October 17 at the Marriott Marquis Houston.
“I first met Alethia in 2009 while working on a Community Development Block Grant long-term recovery program for the Mississippi Gulf Coast following Hurricane Katrina,” said Neil Forbes, HORNE Government Services Managing Partner. “When we first met, I was a manager working for HORNE, and Alethia was in management working with the State of Mississippi to design and implement the program. I was immediately struck by Alethia’s professionalism, drive and commitment to the program’s success. It was obvious that her commitment to success wasn’t because of personal ambition but rather her passion and empathy for those affected by Hurricane Katrina.”
After living through Hurricane Katrina, Alethia shifted her career at HORNE to disaster recovery. Throughout her tenure, her impact grew by helping states and government agencies design and implement federally funded programs to rebuild communities after disasters. Alethia’s firsthand experience translated to her now leading disaster recovery programs in Mississippi, Texas, New York, California, Colorado, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. She is based in Houston, Texas.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to draw on my personal experiences and expertise to lead the design and implementation of inclusive recovery programs rebuilding communities, supporting those in need, and mentoring others along the way,” said Alethia.
As a partner in HORNE’s Government Services practice group, Alethia leads a growing team of professionals who help clients face today’s most complex issues innovatively and compassionately.
